Hi, again, and thanks for stopping by to read another post on the fundamental friday series! So, today’s fundamental is using your voice. In my nineteen years of life, every year has been full of active talking. I am not hesitant to admit I am a talker! Even though I am very loquacious, this post is post is simply not about talking. I want to talk about using your voice to impact P O S I T I V E C H A N G E !
It took me a couple of failures and bumps on the head to figure this out… and to be completely honest, I am still struggling with this, even though I 100% believe in it!
Your voice’s influence, volume, and content should not be influenced by the title you hold or role you play!
What I am saying is, the President is not the only one who deserves to be heard or whose words have to be loudest. I am also saying that even as a representative, or a member, your opinions, ideas, and concerns (to name a few) deserve to be heard as well.
Do not let your “title” or its “responsibilities” hinder your voice. I can remember my junior year of high school feeling belittled and almost silenced because of the title I held: class representative. I was reminded of my position in a way that made it come off an inferior…
I can specifically remember Momma and I talking about the craziness of SGA in high school that year. My Mom reminded me that the position I currently hold is not an indicator of my voice, it does not indicate what I can and cannot talk about, it does not indicate the worth of my voice!
So, I am sharing these words with you because we all are bound to face situations in life where we feel like our voice is not being heard, or we are concerned to speak up because we do not want to “overstep our boundaries” or it’s not in our “job description”. Don’t get me wrong, I believe there is a time and a place for everything and there are boundaries, but you should never feel intimidated enough or belittled to make you lose your voice!
What you have to say is worth hearing.
I am so blessed that my Momma had that talk with me… and I am so blessed that my Momma continues to have that talk with me. Because believe me, it is NOT EASY. It does take that extra effort and you consciously stepping outside your comfort zone, but it is so So SO worth it! Go ahead and courageously use your voice it impact change!
Please, just know your voice has worth. We need to hear what you have to say. Do not ever let anyone trick you into thinking your voice needs to go on mute… **Now I sound like my Momma.**
Again, thanks for stopping by. I hope I have planted a seed in you or you can pocket it for later or share it with someone else. Let me know if you have any experiences of people trying to diminish your voice or if you have any advice for us to use!
